Walmart joins LA pharmacies approved to administer COVID-19 vaccine

The Louisiana Department of Health announced Louisiana will join the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program in an effort to increase COVID-19 vaccinations in the state and nationwide.

The program expands the number of retail pharmacies allowed to administer COVID-19 vaccines.


In Louisiana, 56 Walmart locations will participate in the program along with other retail pharmacies, The pharmacies will formally start administering vaccines on February 11.

LDH health officials say because of Walmart's prior experience in the initial COVID-19 vaccine roll out, they anticipate a seamless transition in administering the vaccine to the public.

The vaccines will roll out to all pharmacy locations in limited supply.
