We're just days away from the deadline to get a "Real ID" driver's license, which will be needed to board a domestic flight or enter a federal government building.
The thought of all that personal information needed to get a Real ID has identity thieves salivating.
Michael Drummond, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of New Orleans, says anyone contacting you about acquiring a Real ID is a red flag. He says your best bet is to just schlepp out to the OMV.
"The government's not going to reach out to you directly to facilitate this," said Drummond. "You're going to have to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state or wherever you're located and go that route."
Drummond says the BBB has not been made aware of any Real ID-based scams, but he says that doesn't mean they aren't out there.
Real ID will be needed to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities starting Wednesday.
