Car break-in crews have clearly seen sitting ducks on the streets and in the parking lots around the Super Dome and Smoothie King Center when the Saints and Pelicans play, but it appears NOPD has yet to catch on.

So today the two teams sent a spokesperson to call on the NOPD to address the problem of serial car burglaries at the event sites.

WWL-TV reports Saints/Pelicans Director of Communications Greg Bensel said the organization is "very concerned" about "constant" car break-ins. A similar incident was reported last month.

In announcing redeployment strategies this afternoon, Interim Police Chief Michelle Woodfork said her department will address the problem head on with the aim of curtailing or eliminating the burglaries.

"We're going to redeploy this in the First District and the Eighth District around ever special event that we have to ensure that won't happen again with auto burglaries," said Woodfork.

The burglaries have caught the attention of the both the NFL and the NBA as the Pelicans are contenders for the championship and the Super Dome will host the Superbowl in 2025.

The latest rash of break-ins came during last night’s game with criminals striking the Julia and Rampart parking lot as well as others closer to the venue.
