What does the future hold for offshore wind energy development in Louisiana?

For years, local leaders have been promoting Louisiana's Gulf waters as the perfect home for offshore wind energy production.

But could those efforts end up taking a step back with the Trump administration's push to expand fossil fuel production? During campaign speeches, President Trump often mocked wind energy, and has repeated his desire to "drill, baby, drill" to satisfy the nation's energy needs.

GNO, Inc. has spent years working to help make Louisiana a leader in offshore wind energy, and the group's president, Michael Hecht, says they are hoping to get the Louisiana delegation on their side if policies promoting wind energy come up for review.

"We're going to start now getting into understanding what's happening at the federal level and the best way for us to engage," said Hecht.

Hecht says they want to promote an "all of the above" energy strategy that includes oil, gas, and nuclear; along with wind.

"Both the state and the country need an 'all of the above' energy strategy, and we think that over time, in the right application, wind will be part of that mix," he said.
