As the Louisiana State University Tigers baseball team prepared to face off against the University of Kentucky Wildcats Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana seafood and Kentucky bourbon hung in the balance.
It all started when Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards tweeted at Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear Friday.
“LSU is ready to host the Wildcats for the Super Regional,” said Bel Edwards. “How about a friendly wager? On the off chance Kentucky wins, I will send you some delicious Louisiana seafood. When @LSUbaseball wins, you send me some Kentucky bourbon. What do you say?”
Within a half an hour, Beshear responded.
“I accept, @LouisianaGov! I can’t wait to celebrate @UkBaseball’s win over a plate of delicious seafood. I’ll go ahead and send you some of our world-famous Kentucky bourbon so we can toast to the #CATS together,” he said.
So, will the pair be toasting with crawfish or with a snifter of Maker’s Mark? The answer may take some time to reveal itself, as weather conditions pushed the start time of the game back to 8 p.m. CT, per the Daily Advertiser.
