Will Congressman Garrett Graves run for LA Gov?

As more Louisiana politicians declare they are in or out for the 2023 governor's race, what about Republican Congressman Garrett Graves?

After the Louisiana Republican Party endorsed Attorney General Jeff Landry, the party's chairman basically disinvited Graves from the race in a recent social media post. Political analyst Jeremy Alford, publisher of LaPolitics.com, says a candidate like Graves would brush that aside.

"Garrett Graves is known for not being shy about throwing a few elbows when he needs to," said Alford.

Alford says Grave would be a formidable candidate.

"If Garret Graves decided he wanted to become a candidate in this race, he would immediately become one of the front-runners," said Alford. "He would immediately become a force to be reckoned with. He is a very strong fundraiser. He would have not only a statewide but also a national fundraising base from which to work with."

On the other hand, Grave is also in line for some plum Capitol Hill assignments as he begins a fifth term in Congress with his party reclaiming the majority in the U.S. House.

"There are others who believe that he is very pleased with his subcommittee assignments in the House this term, and that he's still on-pace to possibly be chairman of the House Transportation Committee," said Alford.
