New Orleans City Councilman At-Large Jason Williams is the projected winner of the Orleans Parish District Attorney's race.
Williams held a lead of more than 11,000 votes with all precincts reporting.
Williams essentially began campaigning months before qualifying began, railing against incumbent D.A. Leon Cannizzaro's methods. Cannizzaro's decision not to run for reelection did not change Williams' campaign argument that the the district attorney's office was placing too much focus on sending people to jail instead of diversion programs or alternate forms of punishment.
Complicating Williams' efforts to reform the prosecutor's office is a federal tax fraud indictment. U.S. prosecutors claim Williams falsified documents and failed to report cash payments for legal services in a scheme to avoid payment of more than $200,000 in taxes.
Williams has said the charges were a desperate attempt discredit him and damage his campaign.
New Orleans voters also had several millages of for renewal and/or reconfiguration. Every single proposition was defeated.
