A 43-year-old woman murdered her boyfriend's six-year-old daughter, then took the girl's body to the victim's mother's house and left her there, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said.
The case began as a missing persons report in Harahan, when the victim's father woke up Wednesday morning and realized his girlfriend and his daughter were not home. Harahan Police checked the child's mother's house near Sedgefield and Donelon drives, and that is where they found the little girl's body in a 10-gallon bucket.
"It turned into a homicide investigation, obviously, at that point," said Sheriff Lopinto. "Our homicide detectives from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office were called out to the scene."
The sheriff said they quickly turned their attention to the missing girlfriend of the victim's father.
"We were able to find numerous video from different households in the neighboring area which showed her pulling a wagon down, late last night, with the bucket inside the back of that wagon," said Lopinto.
Deputies found the suspect, Hannah Landon, also known as Bunnak Lim and Bunnak Landon, at a local hospital. She had actually gone to the Harahan Police Department after midnight and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Landon on a charge of first degree murder.
