The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs Office Monday reported a train crash that left a female pedestrian dead.
Officials say 47-year-old Sybil Henry of Baker was hit and killed.
"Henry... was struck by a train late yesterday evening, as the train passed through Akers (Manchac)."
Investigators are working to determine why the woman was in the path of the train.
"For reasons still under investigation, Henry ended up on the tracks. The train tried to hit brakes but was unable to come to a stop before striking Henry who succumbed to her injuries."
