Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say the suspected gunman in Thursday's Elmwood murder-suicide has died.
The case remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: Thursday, 12 p.m.:
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder and attempted suicide in Elmwood.
The sheriff's office said shortly after 10 a.m., deputies were called to an apartment in the 5100 block of Citrus Blvd., where they found a woman, dead from what looked to be a gunshot wound. Then deputies located their suspect in the parking lot of a store in Elmwood. Authorities say he was inside a vehicle, suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect is in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
