A woman is dead following a Northshore shooting, and the suspected gunman who killed her died in a hospital after a shootout with St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says they were notified about a shooting on Jasmine Street near Mandeville Friday afternoon.
When deputies got there, they say a man immediately came out of the home and began shooting at them.
The sheriff's office says deputies tried to talk the man into dropping the gun -- but he fired on them again, so deputies shot back.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he died several hours later. Deputies found the woman shot to death inside. Authorities say the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office now has possession of both bodies and will begin performing autopsies on them.
The sheriff's office says the case is still in the early stages of investigation.
