A 31-year-old Hammond woman is accused of defrauding her elderly aunt out of thousands of dollars. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office officials say Maili Morris faces more than 800 criminal counts.
According to the sheriff's office, when Morris' 73-year-old aunt learned her bank account was overdrawn, she checked her account and noticed around $12,000 worth of food and merchandise charges to DoorDash.
The sheriff's office says its financial crimes unit learned that Morris had linked her aunt's debit card to her own DoorDash account, using it to make 136 orders from various vendors including Big Lots, Petsmart, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General and several fast food restaurants.
Deputies booked Morris into the parish jail on a total of 816 counts:
136 counts of identity theft
136 counts of bank fraud
136 counts of computer fraud
136 counts of felony theft
136 counts of access device fraud
136 counts of exploitation of the infirmed
The judge set bail for Morris at $18,360,000.
