New Orleans Police say someone hit and killed a woman this morning, then drove away, leaving the pedestrian in the road.
"The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic crash at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue at Rapides Drive," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in an email.
An officer heading home from a shift spotted the body in the road.
"Initial information shows an adult female victim was struck by a vehicle that did not remain on scene. The victim was declared deceased on scene."
Looney said that it happened some time before 6:20am.
