Woman on scooter killed, driver flees

Fatal
NOPD

Cops are looking for the driver that hit and killed a woman in Gentilly.

"The NOPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash," according to a news release sent Tuesday night.

It happened at the intersection of Franklin and Filmore avenues.

"At about 5:45 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash with injury at the location."

Police say the driver of an SUV pulled out of a nearby business, hit the woman as she traveled northbound on Franklin Avenue,  and then drove away.

"The perpetrator vehicle allegedly struck the victim’s vehicle in the intersection and continued its travel westbound on Filmore Avenue. The impact caused the victim to be ejected from the scooter. The victim was declared deceased on scene."

Investigators do not know much about the suspect or the suspect's vehicle.

"The perpetrator vehicle is described as a full-sized SUV of unknown make, model, color or license plate. The vehicle is further described as having front-end damage from the collision."

NOPD asks anyone with information to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Investigator Mike Baldassaro at 504-658-6205. Those wishing to report information anonymously can do so by calling Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
