Woman reports armed man stole her pickup in Covington

Crime

Northshore cops say a woman loading items in her truck called police to report a man with a gun took her vehicle.

"St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Academy Sports and Outdoors, located at 7205 Pinnacle Parkway in Covington," Captain Lance Vitter said in a news release. "A female reported a white male, armed with a rifle, stole her truck."

Deputies arrived at the store minutes later, shortly after 9:00am Saturday.

"After deputies reviewed video footage from the store, it was learned the unknown white male removed an airsoft BB rifle from its packaging and discarded the empty package in the store. As the female was loading her packages in the back of her truck, the unknown male walked up and entered her opened driver’s side door, before exiting the parking lot towards Interstate 12."

Vitter says they found the vehicle about two hours later.

"Shortly after 11:00 am, the truck was located on Haynes Road in Tangipahoa Parish."

Detectives are working to identify and locate the suspect.

"If anyone has any information to assist with the investigation, please call the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 898-2338."
