During the pandemic came "the Great Resignation." Then we had "Quiet Quitting." Now there are employees taking new jobs but then "Quick Quitting" after only working a short time, and employers are "Ghost Posting" job openings they don't have, assuming someone will quit soon enough! Has the American workplace gone crazy?
It has been a wild ride for businesses and workers since the pandemic upended everything in March 2020. UNO professor Mark Rosa says while work from home and people changing jobs is all the rage now, this is all cyclical.
"This has been tested and tried and been done before," said Rosa.
When companies began rehiring, workers had the upper hand, and could make demands or just walk if there was a better opportunity. Rosa says now there are indications companies are going to start letting people go.
"Meta, i.e. Facebook, Microsoft, is laying off, if I understood it right, over a thousand workers," he said.
The fed is trying to slow the economy by making it more expensive to borrow money. Rosa explains what happens next.
"You're going to have a reduction in economic activity, so whatever you're-- if you're selling snowballs or you're at the bowling alley or you make cars, if you're selling fewer of them, something tells me you need fewer employees," he said.
