We now know why WWE pulled WrestleMania XLII from New Orleans.
The wrestling promotion announced on its social media pages on Saturday that it is bringing its marquee event to Las Vegas for a second consecutive year. The two-day wrestling show will take place on April 18 and 19.
"Time to double down," WWE wrote on its Facebook page when announcing the location.
"In my experience, anything worth doing is worth doing twice," WWE chief operating officer Paul "Triple-H" Levesque said in the video attached to that post. "So I've got just one question for you: are you ready to double down?"
Levesque elaborated on WWE's decision during a press conference after Saturday's Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
"When you have a record-shattering, biggest WrestleMania of all time in Vegas, it's great to be able to say we're going back to the Entertainment Capital of the World, and we look forward to breaking this year's records there," Levesque said. "It's built for stuff like what we do, and to be able to go in there a second time, the things we learned this time, and how we handled the week there and everything else, this one will be even better. It's a great opportunity for us to go in there in a place that people loved going to last year (and) will love going to again."
The announcement comes two weeks after WWE announced that it would not hold WrestleMania in New Orleans in 2026 as initially announced. As part of an agreement with New Orleans sports and tourism officials, WWE and its parent company, TKO, gave the Crescent City a package of future events, including UFC 318 on July 19, the 2026 edition of WWE's Money in the Bank, and a future WrestleMania.
"We love New Orleans," Levesque said. "We love our partnership with them. We were able to grow our partnership with them along through this process. I think it's a win for everybody."
New Orleans and the Superdome hosted WrestleMania XXX in 2014 and WrestleMania XXXIV in 2018.
