WWL TV: Vappie to retire amid controversy, alleged mayoral affair

New Orleans Police Officer Jeffery Vappie is reportedly leaving the force.

"According to an internal memo obtained by WWL Louisiana, Jeffery Vappie is set to retire from his position with the NOPD on June 29, 2024," Lily Cummings reported on WWLTV.com.

It comes after controversy surrounding the 27-year veteran cop.

He was caught on camera going in and out of Mayor LaToya's French Quarter apartment with her at all hours of the day and night while he was assigned to her protection detail.  His wife claimed in divorce papers that Vappie and Cantrell were having an affair.

He became the subject of a payroll fraud investigation as he allegedly claimed that personal time with the mayor was on the clock.

Authorities removed Vappie from his duties as Cantrell's body guard.  He was later reinstated, but is now under a new investigation after pictures showed him and Cantrell on a restaurant balcony eating and drinking together when he was reportedly on duty.

His resignation comes as the Public Integrity Bureau is investigating Vappie on multiple violations of NOPD policy.
