With February 14 upon us, romance is once again in the air. So where should you take that special someone for a special night out?

Internet review site Yelp recently combed through their several thousands of user-generated opinions to determine the most romantic dining spot in every state of the union. And in Louisiana, that eatery is right here in the Crescent City.

Celebrating 30 years in business in 2023, Irene’s Cuisine at 529 Bienville Street boasts a robust overall review of 4 ½ out of 5 possible stars, a total averaged from over 1,000 online reviews by Yelp users.

Irene’s is the brainchild of Irene DiPietro, a Sicilian native who immigrated to New Orleans to “dazzle the palates of the French Quarter’s jaded souls,” according to the restaurant’s website.

“I remember taking the train every summer to visit my grandmother in Noto, the little town where I was born,” DiPietro said in the restaurant’s online biography. “She grew or raised everything she cooked, including lamb and rabbit. She baked bread and prepared feasts for St. Joseph’s Altar. She had a huge dining table where the whole family gathered. She was the best cook I’ve ever been around. She was, and is, my inspiration.”

Prices for the restaurant’s entrees range from $22 for Lasagna Bolognese to $35 for Lamb a’la Provence, and the menu features both traditional Italian centerpieces and south Louisiana favorites like crab, oysters and crawfish.

Irene’s is open for dinner five nights a week, every Tuesday through Saturday.
