Our recent weather conditions aren't typical of a Southeastern Louisiana winter. We generally see longer periods of mild temperatures with intermittent cold snaps.
Here lately, colder temperatures seem to linger more while warmth seems to pop in quickly.
So, what does the upside down weather mean for everyone's gardens, yards, and outside plant life?
Horticulturalist and host of WWL's "The Garden Show", Dan Gill, says no need to panic, these temperatures are great for most plants.
"Your shrubs, trees, and other hardy vegetation love these temperatures and it gets them ready for the hard freezes."
Gill says for those who keep tropical plants in their landscaping, temps have not fallen enough for concern yet but it might be a good idea to come up with a plan when a freeze does come.
"You may have to decide if you will continue to wrap and unwrap your more cold sensitive plants or will you let some die off and plant some more."
