NIL plays a huge factor in recruiting, but it’s not all about the money for some recruits. Defensive back Greedy James from Manvel, Texas, was a long-time pledge for the Longhorns, but on Thursday he flipped his pledge to LSU.

James explained his reasoning to Rivals.

“At LSU, I loved the culture on and off the field,” said James. “They have a great coaching staff, and they feel like father figures, especially Coach (Corey) Raymond. He’s one of the best.”

Getting a talented player like James to commit to your school certainly takes money, but first-year head coach Lane Kiffin telling recruits it’s different at LSU and having a coach like Raymond, who has developed several first-round picks, are also attractions.

James also has connections to Louisiana. He was born in New Orleans, and he still has family living in the Crescent City.

James is listed as a safety, but he’s expected to play cornerback at LSU. 247sports lists him at six-foot, 175 pounds, and Raymond likes tall, rangy receivers to match up with taller receivers. There’s still a chance James can grow an inch or two to fit the height that Raymond likes.

James is LSU’s 15th commit, and 247sports ranks the Tigers' 2027 recruiting class as the 11th best in the country.

Texas A&M is ranked number one. Oklahoma, Texas, Auburn, and Florida are other SEC schools ranked in the Top 10.

LSU remains in the hunt for one of the top players in the Class of 2027. Defensive lineman is Jalen Brewster is a Texas Tech commit, but LSU is very much in the picture.

The five-star’s Instagram and YouTube pages feature videos of his recent visit to LSU. He’s expected to make a final decision before his senior season starts.
