LSU still hoping to play Alabama

Three college football games involving teams from Louisiana had to be postponed this weekend due to COVID-19 concerns. LSU, Louisiana Tech, and ULM are each dealing with coronavirus cases within their programs.

The Tigers were scheduled to host Alabama at 5 PM Saturday. Athletic Director Scott Woodward says LSU could possibly move the Ole Miss game to December 19 in order to play Alabama on December 5.

“That makes practical sense, people can look at the schedules and the SEC is looking at it,” said Woodward. “That on would be very logical to me.”

The SEC presidents voted on Friday to allow for games to be played on December 19 before the conference title game is played that night.

LSU has already lost one home game this year when the matchup against Missouri was moved to Columbia due to Hurricane Delta. Woodward says the school can’t afford to lose another home game because the university will miss out on millions.

“If we don’t makeup Alabama, which I feel confident we are, that’s probably a five or six million dollar hit to the program,” said Woodward.

Woodward says there is only a small number of players who have tested positive, but many more are in quarantine. He says none of the players who have tested positive, have suffered a serious illness.

“I think our kids are having mild symptoms, just like they are predicting and showing that demographic group, healthy, young people are asymptomatic, but that’s not the issue, the issue is how much spreading is going to the vulnerable.”
