A man is dead after flying off his motorcycle that hit a dog on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish.
"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred today in the 400 block of George St. in Avondale," Captain Jason Rivarde said.
"The initial investigation indicates that the rider struck a dog that ran into the roadway."
It happened just before 4:00pm.
"Deputies were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle crash involving a rider who had been ejected from the motorcycle. The rider, a 63-year-old man from Avondale, suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead on the scene."
Rivarde said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
An autopsy is pending to determine if the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
