An individual barricaded inside a Phoenix home Friday allegedly shot and injured five police officers, according to CBS News.

The officers were in the hospital as of late Friday morning, said the outlet. Phoenix Police Department Chief Jeri Williams said one woman is in critical condition.

“Phoenix PD is working a critical incident in the area of 54th Ave / Elwood Street,” said a tweet from around 5 a.m. Friday. “Scene is active. Stay away for your safety.”

Chief Williams said that police were called to a shooting at the scene and that the suspect opened fire as an officer attempted to help, striking the officer “multiple times.”

“There was a baby in the home who at some point was placed in a carrier and placed outside,” Williams said. “As officers went to bring that baby to safety, the suspect continued to shoot.”

Officers returned fire, she said.

As of 9 a.m., the department tweeted that the barricade situation had been resolved. It said there is no threat to the public and that the area will be restricted while investigators are on scene. No additional details were provided.

One of the five officers hit was “seriously hurt,” Williams added. All officers are on the road to recovery.

A CBS News drone captured photos of holes in the home’s second story windows.
