President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign has dubbed former President Donald Trump “Broke Don,” taking a page out of his predecessor’s book, using a teasing nickname.

While Trump has been known for his off-the-cuff nicknames made about his political rivals, like “Crooked Hillary,” “Meatball Ron,” “Pocahontas,” “Crazy Nancy,” and “Sleepy Joe,” Biden’s team appears to be giving him a taste of his own medicine.

“Not a Winning Campaign: Broke Don Hides in Basement,” the Biden campaign wrote in an email. “Trump can’t raise money, isn’t campaigning, and is letting convicts and conspiracy theorists run his campaign.”

The remark from Biden’s team comes as Trump is continuing to face financial struggles, including most recently, his fundraising numbers and the $464 million penalty assessed to him in his New York City fraud trial from last year.

The tactic was also used after election filings made public on Wednesday showed Trump’s 2024 campaign brought in $10.9 million last month, and his joint fundraising committee raised nearly $11 million, The Hill reported. In total, the documents showed that the Trump campaign has about $42 million in cash on hand.

At the same time, documents showed that in February, Biden’s campaign raised around $53 million, bumping its cash on hand to $155 million at the start of March, giving Biden’s team the perfect chance to break out their new “Broke Don” moniker.

“We are two weeks into the general election, and Donald Trump can’t raise money, is hiding at his country club, and is letting convicts and conspiracy theorists take over his campaign. That is not a winning strategy,” Biden spokesperson Ammar Moussa said.

But the teasing of Trump didn’t stop with the nickname, as Biden’s team also said last week that Trump would “fire himself” if his fundraising numbers were on the former president’s show “The Apprentice.”

While speaking at the Gridiron Club Dinner last weekend, Biden brought attention to the age concern surrounding his presidency, but this time, turning it back on his Republican competitor.

“One candidate is too old, mentally unfit to be president. The other’s me,” Biden, 81, joked.

On Thursday, while fundraising in Houston, he spoke critically of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Trump, saying that he hoped the Texan would lose his Senate seat to his Democratic challenger “so Ted can join loser Donald Trump.”
