Utah native Jeff T. Green, CEO and chairman of The Trade Desk, officially resigned from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Green is believed to be the wealthiest person from Utah, and recently joined The Giving Pledge to give away more than 90% of his fortune to “data-driven philanthropy” either before or at the time of his death.

11 of Green's family members and a friend joined him and resigned from the LDS Church.

“Although I have deep love for many Mormons and gratitude for many things that have come into my life through Mormonism, I have not considered myself a member for many years, and I’d like to make clear to you and others that I am not a member,” Green wrote in a letter to church President Russell M. Nelson. “While I left the Mormon church more than a decade ago — not believing, attending, or practicing — I have not officially requested the removal of my records, until now.”

The Giving Pledge was founded in 2010 by Bill and Melinda Gates along with Warren Buffett. Their goal is for billionaires to give away a majority of their wealth “to address some of society’s most pressing problems.”

“My family foundation and its giving arm—Dataphilanthropy—is dedicated to the mission that passionate, yet data-driven, rational philanthropy is the most effective way to deploy capital against humanity’s toughest problems,” Green wrote in his letter. “We will invest in projects where we can apply data to understand progress, mistakes and opportunities. We will invest in communities, business and people with both time and money, and where that essential combination of resources can help us achieve progress at scale.”

Green founded The Trade Desk in 2009, as the company's technology allows marketers to buy data-driven digital advertising to reach consumers with hyper-targeted messages. The company went public on the Nasdaq in 2016 and their stock has grown from $2.77 per share to $88.04 per share as of Dec. 20.

His personal net worth is valued at $4.9 billion, per Forbes, making him the 253rd wealthiest person in America. Green currently lives in Southern California.
