Yes, Canadians really do eat poutine. The dish of French fries covered in gravy and topped with cheese curds is actually wildly popular across the country.

Same goes for maple syrup and ketchup chips -- both delicacies you can find in the Great White North.

Apparently, though, some foods that Americans think are Canadian aren't really that popular in Canada.

According to Eat This, Not That, one of the biggest misnomers is "Canadian bacon."

While people eat bacon in Canada, no locals actually call it "Canadian bacon." Unlike the strips of crispy pork found alongside nearly every breakfast dish in the states, Canadian bacon is cured ham typically in thick, round slices -- most famously served on McDonald's Egg McMuffin. In Canada, however, it's known as back bacon or peameal bacon, per Eat This.

What about mooseburgers? While some Canadians do enjoy eating moose meat, Eat This says mooseburgers are hardly a common entrée.

Another common misconception: Canadians do not eat actual beaver tails. What they do enjoy, however, is a special fried pastry known as BeaverTails and sold by a restaurant chain of the same name. The fried dough is stretched to resemble a beaver's tail, and then covered with various toppings, per Eat This.

Just because fondue is French, doesn't mean people in parts of French Canada are eating it alongside every meal. You'll only find one or two fondue restaurants in tourist-heavy areas of Montreal and Quebec, according to Eat This.

Fèves au lard is another dish that is eaten in Quebec but not necessarily enjoyed by the nation as a whole, per Eat This. The dish consists of baked beans with maple syrup and bacon.

While Canadians do enjoy seafood, you're not going to find people eating whales. Some Inuit communities include meat from belugas or bowheads in their diets, but Eat This says most Canadians have never even tried it.
