Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lobbed a jab at American President Donald Trump on social media after Canada’s defeat of the U.S. in the final of the 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament.

“You can’t take our country – and you can’t take our game,” Trudeau wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after Canada’s 3-2 overtime win.

Trump has talked up the idea of annexing Canada in recent weeks, even saying, “Canada would be much better off being the 51st state” during his Super Bowl interview.

Those remarks along with Trump’s battle with America’s northern neighbor over tariffs resulted in “The Star Spangled Banner” getting booed when played in Canada.

While the Canadian national anthem “O Canada” was also booed on American soil by some retaliatory fans, it was not booed when played after Canada’s ultimate victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Trump did not attend Thursday’s decisive game.
