A Colorado couple with three children received a memorable anniversary surprise about 10 years into marriage.
In March, real estate agent Celina Quinones shared a TikTok video that has since gone viral describing how she and her husband, Joseph, learned they were related.
It was when the couple decided to work on their family tree and ordered DNA tests. That is when they found out they were cousins.
"Married my husband in 2006. Not thinking anything of it we had 3 kids," she wrote over a photo from their wedding. The video then snaps to a screenshot of their DNA results. "Come to find out we were related and cousins."
Quinones says she and her husband are between second and seventh cousins, but the tests could not determine the exact degree that they are related.
"My kids and my husband are my everything and we looked passed it. All our kids has 10 fingers 10 toes," she wrote on her TikTok video, which has been viewed nearly 4.5 million times. "It's a good ice breaker lol."
Quinones told People Magazine that she and her husband married only after a few months of dating. Even though their relatives met, no one was suspicious of the apparent family ties.
"We ended up having our wedding, and even then, our grandmas seemed to be a lot alike, and they got along, but still, nothing clicked," she said.
Quinones admitted she's received a lot of nasty comments about the situation and even questioned whether she and her husband should stay together.
"I was in shock. I was a little depressed over it, to be honest. But this was after we already had three kids, and all of them were healthy," she told People. "I was like, 'Should we get a divorce? Are we even supposed to be together?' I started rethinking... and then after a while, I was like, 'Nope, we're just staying together.' There's nothing we can do about it. I'm not going to let some blood come between us."
As for why she shared the news on TikTok, Quinones said she thought it would be "funny."
"I didn't think anything of it. I didn't think it would go this viral," she told People. "I feel a little more free. Like, it is what it is. There are people that love no matter what or who, so why can't I love my cousin by accident?"
