A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Atlanta lost two tires when it landed at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, causing passengers to be stuck on the plane on the tarmac for over an hour.
The incident forced two of the runways at LAX to close for several hours after Delta Flight 515 landed just after 1 p.m., according to the Associated Press.
The pilot of the Delta flight reported a mechanical issue with the plane, LAX's Victoria Spilabotte told CBS News Los Angeles.
"Thanks to the flight crews’ handling during the landing process, Delta flight 515 operating from Atlanta arrived safely and came to rest on the taxiway after a possible issue with some of its tires at Los Angeles International Airport," a Delta spokesperson said, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. "Customers were deplaned and bused to the terminal. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
Luckily, there weren't any injuries from passengers reported. One passenger tweeted a picture from the runway of the plane's shredded tires, and added that a bus came to "deplane passengers."
Another passenger posted a long thread of tweets explaining what went down during the incident on the runway, and her story varies from what Delta seemed to downplay.
"We start our short final onto the runway. We touchdown (maybe a little fast) when all of a sudden POW BAM right landing gear fumbles the bag and we pop 2 tires on the right," Sara Margarett tweeted.
"Everyone freaks out and we skidded to a stop somewhere between hell and a runway," she added.
Margarett continued the thread by adding that the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene to check things out. CBS News LA added that the Fire Department was called "as a precaution."
"So then they say maintenance is coming to fix the tires….then they can’t fix them….so after ONE HOUR they decide to get all the humans off the plane and take them inside," Margarett added.
Margarett then joked that she was able to spend "a whole hour to hang out with all my favorite strangers," and said about a half hour later that she was still on the plane.
