The social media platform Twitter has officially rebranded to “X” after the company’s owner and CEO, Elon Musk, decided to make the jump over the weekend.
Musk shared a series of tweets on late Saturday and early Sunday morning, saying he wanted to make the rebrand as quick as possible, dumping the iconic bird logo from the platform in exchange for a newly designed “X” logo.
Musk shared a video of the logo and name, saying he would like to launch it by Monday. And then he did it.
He also tweeted that X.com now redirects users to Twitter, which is still Twitter.com.
The CEO also shared a picture on Monday morning of the company’s headquarters in San Francisco with the new logo being projected onto the side of the building.
“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk tweeted on his account Saturday.
The rebrand, however, appears to have been a little rushed, as “Twitter” and the bird still appear in several different places on the platform.
One example is the social media site’s own account, which has changed its display name to “X” but is still “@Twitter” at the time of this story’s publishing. One reason could be that the handle @X is taken by another user.
Users also shared several other areas on the website, which have conflicting branding, including the URL, on the sign-in page that shows the new “X” logo but still says “Join Twitter Today,” and several other areas where the bird logo still appears.
While users may be confused, it appears the platform is as well, as the bio for the main X account now says, “What’s happening?!”
