The Houston Astros held their victory parade on Monday after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, but everything didn’t go as planned for one man who was arrested at the parade for throwing a beer can at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.).
The Houston Police Department took to Twitter during the parade, saying that Cruz, who was on a float at the 2400 block of Smith Street, was hit with the beer can.
The department shared that Cruz was not injured after being struck in the “chest/neck area.”
Fans weren’t thrilled to see the congressman, as the crowd booed the senator as he went past in the back of a military-style vehicle.
As Cruz was passing crowds, video posted to social media caught the beer being tossed at the senator’s head as people in the vehicle attempted to shield him from it.
The suspect was promptly found by police at the parade and arrested on suspicion of assault. The department has not yet released his identity.
The senator has not commented on the incident.
