Drinks from an 80-year-old beverage company have been recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration due to undeclared food dye and sulfites
According to three enforcement reports updated Monday, Yellow Lemonade, Yellow Lemonade X, Pink Lemonade and Cola Flavoring Base are part of the recall. They are sold by the Charles Boggini Company, a Connecticut business founded in 1936.
Charles Boggini Company issued a voluntary recall of the products on March 29.
As of June 3, 112 gallons of recalled Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X 1-gallon and 5-gallon bottles had a Class III designation from the FDA for undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5. That recall number is F-1286-2024 and it includes Yellow Lemonade X lot numbers 1-015 and Yellow Lemonade lot numbers 1-065.
Another 2,723 gallons of Cola Flavoring Base packaged in 1-gallon jugs and 5 gallon pails were recalled for undeclared sulfites. This recall number is F-1285-2024 and it includes lot numbers 9-330, 9-348, 1-013, 1-036 and 1-097.
The third recall covers 28 gallons of Pink Lemonade due to undeclared FD&C Red No. 40. It is under recall number F-1284-2024 and includes lot numbers 1-017. Both the Cola and Pink Lemonade products are Class II or moderate to high risk.
Food dye and sulfites can cause allergy symptoms in some people. Products in these recalls were sold in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois, Nevada and California.
