On Tuesday, FedEx announced that it would have to suspend some domestic air freight services as it continues to face staffing shortages due to the recent omicron surge.
The delivery company has an advisory on its website, which says that economy domestic Express freight services are suspended without a date for when they will be available again. This affects 2Day Freight and 3Day Freight shipping for customers.
FedEx said on Monday it had previously paused international economy Express freight pickups but has since resumed them.
The shipping giant had previously warned that there would be delays due to shortages of crew members and operational staff in its Express air network.
Still, they were working to make sure that any delays would be minimized, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Throughout the past year, FedEx has not been able to adequately staff its delivery network with struggles from the pandemic and labor struggles.
In December, as an incentive to retain and attract new workers, company executives shared they have increased pay, given more paid time off, flexible scheduling, and offered other incentives.
So far, it seems to have helped keep enough staff to work during the busiest time of the year, the Journal reported. However, issues still plague the company resulting in the new suspension of certain shipping methods.
