More than 270,000 Ford Motor Company vehicles have been recalled due to a battery failure issue, according to a recent recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In the Jan. 17 notice, the administration said that that the electrical system in an estimated 272,817 vehicles is the reason for the recall. Some of the recalled vehicles are 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles and others were 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles. In all, the 12-volt battery may experience degradation and failure.
If the batteries do fail, it can result in the loss of electrical accessories, including hazard lights. It might also cause a loss of drive power and increase the likelihood of a crash.
According to the NHTSA, dealers of the vehicles will inspect them and replace the faulty batteries, if necessary, free of charge. Owners of the impacted Ford models should expect to receive notification letters that will be mailed out Feb. 3. They can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and inquire about recall number 25S02.
“Vehicles in this recall were previously repaired under 24V-267 and will need to have the new remedy completed,” said the NHTSA. Its Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
Other recent Ford recalls include a recall of 368,000 Ford crossover SUVs over loss of braking that Audacy reported in October and a recall of 552,000 pickup trucks over transmission issue that we reported on in June.
