“We cannot continue living like that,” Colonel Alex Gan, a retired fighter pilot for the Israeli Air Force, told WWL’s Newell Normand this week.
He had just finished describing the atrocities he had seen at the hands of Hamas terrorists. Earlier this month, the Palestinian militant organization surprised Israel with a coordinated attack. Israel then declared war, and fighting has continued around the Gaza Strip.
Gan told Normand that Hamas attacks have focused on civilian targets.
“Their strategy is to terrorize the civil population, hurt the civil population as much as they can,” he said from a village in northern Israel. “It’s part of their plan of how... to destroy Israel over the years.”
He also outlined some specific horrors that terrorists have inflicted upon the region.
“Most of the… atrocities were not shown on the media…” he said. “We had babies beheaded. We saw the footage of their children being killed by axes, hitting their heads over and over, repeatedly shooting girls. Raping young women over and over and over.”
Iran, which has provided Hamas with funds, posted an aggressive message against Israel this week after an explosion at a Hamas-run hospital. U.S. and Israeli intelligence indicated that a failed Hamas rocket caused the deadly explosion.
As the war between Israel and Hamas continues, there are concerns that Iran – which also funds the Lebanese Hezbollah group – may also become involved, creating a larger war in the Middle East.
“Just now, a few minutes ago, we had the missile attack from Lebanon and our northern villages,” said Gan during his conversation with Normand. “But if it will happen, we will go after Hezbollah, too, and get rid of them. Once and for all.”
