A little girl was sent to school with a note from her mother, who was begging to be rescued from an abusive boyfriend. The message led to Las Vegas police finding the girl's little brother dead in a freezer, authorities reported.

Las Vegas police were notified of the situation, which led to the boy's discovery after the woman's daughter's elementary school teacher read her plea for help and told the authorities, News3LV reported.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Ray Spencer shared in a press conference that the note indicated the boyfriend was holding the mother against her will.

"She also stated that she did not know the whereabouts of her preschool-aged child," Spencer said.

The woman told police that she was afraid the 3-or 4-year-old was possibly dead when they arrived at her home, authorities said. She also said that she had not seen him since Dec. 11.

While speaking with police, Spencer shed light on what was happening with her significant other, described as being in his late 30s.

"During the course of that interview, she described that she had undergone abuse by her boyfriend, who she lived with, and had been inquiring about the whereabouts of her child and believed that the child may possibly be deceased," Spencer said.

According to officials, the boyfriend prevented the mother from leaving their home or even entering the garage, where they found her son's body in a freezer.

The boyfriend, who is not the boy's father, was arrested and has been booked on a suspected kidnapping charge, according to officials.

However, this is not a closed case as Spencer added that "We have a lot of questions that we still don't have the answer to."

The name of the boyfriend has not been made public at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
