We’re now entering the holiday season in the U.S., and people across the country are preparing for something that might feel like the adult equivalent of coal in your stocking: the office pizza party.
We all like pizza, right? In most settings, that’s true. However, something about pizza parties at the office seems to rub people the wrong way. Workplace culture expert Dr. Jessica Kriegel joined Mike Rogers on the latest “Something Offbeat” to explain.
“I can’t knock pizza for anything. But the reality is that I think a lot of people have bad managers and bad experiences all day long at work. They’ve got too much that they’ve got to get done,” she said. “They’re feeling burned out. They’re getting forced back into the office, and then the managers give them a pizza party as if that’s supposed to make up for what it is to be in that job all day long, which is often not very exciting.”
Kreigel also offered advice about other, better options managers have to say thank you to their employees.
Each week, “Something Offbeat” takes a deeper look at an unusual headline. If you have suggestions for stories the podcast should cover, send them to us at somethingoffbeat@audacy.com.
