Stephen Colbert has canceled this week’s episodes of his late night talk show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” sharing the news on his social media.

Colbert was forced to cancel his shows this week after he suffered an appendix burst, and while it may have been painful, he was able to make light of the situation.

“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix,” he wrote in a post on Monday.

Colbert didn’t have a new episode scheduled for Monday but had planned shows for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, according to CBS News.

His guests included Jennifer Garner, Patrick Stewart, Barbra Streisand, and more, the report said.

A burst or ruptured appendix can be potentially life-threatening as it results in an infection that spreads throughout the abdomen unless the organ is surgically removed immediately, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Colbert confirmed that his surgery was successful and thanked those on his medical team and his family.

“Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas,” he joked.
