How to apply for a job with Elon Musk’s DOGE

The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, is hiring to fill a “very small number” of full-time salaried positions, according to a post by the department.

In a post to Musk’s social media platform X, the department said that prospective employees should “DM us a few bullet points demonstrating exceptional ability, and your cell phone number.”

The announcement that it would be seeking employees comes after it said in November that it had received thousands of applications from job-seekers who were attempting to assist with “unglamorous cost-cutting.”

However, the post also noted that Musk and his co-chair, Vivek Ramaswamy, would only evaluate the top 1% of applicants, saying it was seeking “super high-IQ” employees who would dedicate more than 80 hours per week.

In December, the department once again called for applicants, this time seeking those with human resource, finance, and information technology backgrounds.

As for the latest post requesting new applicants, very little was shared about what the job would entail.

“Recruiting for a very small number of full-time salaried Software Engineers and InfoSec Engineers,” the department said.

While the positions would be full-time and salaried, it’s not clear what the salary range for the open positions is. It’s also not clear where the funds to pay the employees will come from, as the department was newly created by President-elect Trump and is not an official federal department.

If the department follows in the footsteps of its cost-cutting predecessors, like President Ronald Reagan’s Grace Commission, it may seek private funding over taxpayer dollars. The Grace Commission had a private foundation created to support it.

As for the jobs that appear to be available, DOGE is looking for software engineers, information security engineers, human resource professionals, information technology professionals, and finance professionals.
