Hunters in Hawaii made the disturbing discovery of human remains wrapped in plastic this week, according to a report.

Wailuku Patrol Officers were called to the Kula area of Maui at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding the remains, said a press release from the Maui Police Department.

According to Go Hawaii, Kula is an area in the Up country of Maui, known for its farms and botanical gardens. It is described as a “rustic” area on the slopes of Haleakalā, a volcano.

“Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians from the Criminal Investigation Division arrived on the scene at approximately 4:58 p.m. to conduct the investigation, which remains active,” said the press release. Police said more information will be released as it becomes available.

Maui Now reported Thursday that police confirmed hunters discovered human remains wrapped in plastic, citing Maui Police Department spokesperson Alana Pico. Audacy reached out to Pico for updates.

This investigation remains ongoing, Maui Now said Thursday.
