An Indiana man is in custody after having allegedly murdered his wife with their young children in the home over suspicion of an affair and a Valentine’s evening gone horribly wrong.
Taylor Meyer, 34, had planned what he thought was a romantic evening at home on Friday, February 14, buying her a new dress for the occasion, ordering dinner, and having hand-drawn pictures of the Eiffel Tower by their three children, all under the age of 5.
The theme of the evening was “Bringing Paris to You,” according to WAVE, and Meyer had also given his wife Deborah a handwritten card of his own.
“It was the hardest I’ve ever tried,” Meyer allegedly told investigators, according to Law and Crime. “She just didn’t give a s**t.”
Deborah Meyer left the residence for about 20 minutes. Taylor Meyer had been harboring suspicions that she was cheating on him and believed she left to meet up with her affair partner.
When she returned, he flew into a rage, allegedly attempting to forcibly take her phone from her hands, leading to a physical altercation.
Taylor told police that Deborah asked him, “What are you going to do, kill me? You’re going to hurt me and leave our kids with no parents?” according to Law and Crime.
After finally pulling the phone from her grasp, Taylor called the man he believed to be his wife’s boyfriend on the side and told him the altercation he was hearing over the phone was his fault. Then he hit Deborah over the head with a wine bottle several times until she was unconscious.
Taylor told police that that’s when he retrieved a “big a** kitchen knife, a long one” and stabbed her a dozen times, according to the police affidavit obtained by WAVE.
Then he took a photo of her lifeless body and texted it to the alleged boyfriend with the words “Your Fault,” police say, before then telling friends and family that he had killed Deborah.
Taylor Meyer has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.
