Just like the seasons come every year, so does the new iPhone, and recent reports from industry insiders say that the iPhone 15 could feature some major upgrades.

While Apple holds its tongue on all things iPhone, when it comes to the next model, a recent report from CNET says that some major changes could be coming, including a new charging port, camera, and more.

The report shares that among the top changes users should expect is the introduction of the USB-C charging port on the iPhone in lieu of the company’s proprietary Lightning port.

Citing rumors from analyst Avi Greengart and a recent EU ruling that all phones should have USB-C charging ports, Apple is expected to finally make the jump many have called for throughout the last half-decade.

With the new legislation abroad, Greengart says he can’t see Apple manufacturing two different phones, instead saying “it is more likely that Apple moves all iPhones” globally to a USB-C charging port.

Another significant change consumers look forward to every year is the updated cameras on the phones, with the tech being a top draw for many.

The camera on the next variation of the iconic phone is now expected to be a periscope-style camera, according to noted Apple observer Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a periscope-style telephoto lens, allowing for a higher optical zoom. He says it could reach up to 6x optical zoom, compared to the current 3x zoom in the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Other changes include upgrades to the phone’s RAM, solid state buttons, and the expansion of the dynamic island to all models.

While the new bells and whistles are always fun to daydream about, the price often plays the role of the final decision-maker. Since the first iPhone in 2007, prices have continued to rise with the popularity of the devices.

According to CNET, the prices for the iPhone 15 are expected to rise again this year, but only for the pro models, not the base version of the phone.

As for a release date, experts continue to point towards Apple’s trend of September announcements as the expected date when the phone will be announced.
