Jimmy Carter, 99, wants to vote for Kamala Harris in November

Jimmy Carter, 99, the 39th president of the U.S., has been in hospice care for more than a year. However, he still carries on, and he has a goal he wants to achieve: voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

That’s according to his grandson, Jason Carter. He shared a conversation Carter had with his son Chip earlier this week with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. CNN also reached out to the Carter Center for statement, the outlet said Saturday.

Harris, 59, is expected to become the Democratic nominee this month at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Ill., and she is reportedly vetting her potential vice president picks this weekend, according to the Associated Press. President Joe Biden, 81, decided to step down as the candidate this month.

Carter, a peanut farmer, is a Democrat who served one term from 1977 to 1981. Today, Carter is the oldest living U.S. president. By the time the November election rolls around, he’ll be 100 years old.

“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” he reportedly said. If Harris wins in November, she would become the first female president. Former President Donald Trump, who lost the 2020 election, is the GOP’s candidate.
