'Everybody's on full alert': Major Santa Ana winds return amid SoCal wildfires

A new round of strong Santa Ana winds is expected to hit across the region Tuesday with forecasters declaring it another "Particularly Dangerous Situation."

The wind conditions are expected to last until 12 PM Wednesday and hit Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the Inland Empire. According to the National Weather Service, the peak winds will be weaker than the ones from last week; however, gusts will be between 40 to 70- mph.

This comes as firefighters are continuing to battle the Pacific and Eaton fires.

Fabian Herrera, spokesperson for the L.A. County Fire Department, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that firefighters battling the Palisades Fire are not seeing any flareups or strong winds as of early Tuesday morning.

“Still smoldering some hot spots, and those are continuing to be diminished,” he said. “Our containment is now at 17%, so it's not increasing by big jumps, but we are gaining an upper hand with this fire.”

Baird also spoke with Captain Tony McHale from the Ventura County Fire Department, who said that despite seeing lulls in the wind that tensions are high.

“Whenever we're faced with these kinds of wind conditions, everybody's on full alert,” he said. “We really ask the citizens that we serve to be proactive in their safety as well. “

He urges residents to be vigilant and have their go-bags packed and ready.

As of early Tuesday morning, the Eaton Fire has burned 14,117 acres and is at 35% containment.
