PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 3-month-old puppy and the man who wanted to buy her were shot in North Philadelphia Tuesday night.
Philadelphia police say two men were standing outside a home on North Warnock Street, near 11th and West Huntingdon streets. One of the men was interested in buying a pit bull puppy, named Ruby.
Police say the man had Ruby in his arms when someone started shooting.
The man and Ruby were shot several times. The man was taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. Ruby was shot in the neck.
“The dog was not moving, bleeding heavily. So police officers picked up the dog and … took the dog to the hospital,” Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10.
Ruby remains in critical condition and will need multiple surgeries.
Police have not made any arrests in this case. Investigators do not yet know if the man was targeted or if he was hit by stray bullets.
