(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Massively popular Squishmallow toys will soon make their debut inside of McDonald’s Happy Meals, the fast food company announced Tuesday.
The Squishmallow Happy Meal toys will launch at McDonald’s restaurants across the country starting Dec. 26, 2023.
Although the release will feature 12 Squishmallow characters, including Cam and Fifi, possible collectibles will also feature the well-known, purple McDonaldland character Grimace. Officials said there’s also a mystery character that customers may uncover when they dig into their Happy Meal.
California-based Kelly Toys Holdings launched Squishmallows in 2017, but the plush toys gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks in part to viral TikTok and social media posts from users who shared their collections.
As of 2023, Kelly Toys Holdings had sold over 50 millions units of the toys.
In their press release, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Tariq Hassan described Squishmallows as “some of the hottest toys out there right now.”
Each Happy Meal Squishmallow character will also come with their own playlist, which McDonald’s officials said was a first for Happy Meal toys.
To access those playlists, simply scan the QR code on the Happy Meal box.
