The Make-A-Wish Foundation received its largest donation from a single donor ever on Wednesday, after NBA legend and Hall of Famer Michael Jordan made a $10 million contribution.
Jordan, who turns 60 on Friday, made the donation as a celebration of another decade spent on Earth. He shared in a press release he hopes his decision to donate will inspire others to do so.
The six-time NBA Champion has remained a big part of the NBA world, being that he owns the Charlotte Hornets, helping grant numerous wishes for kids through the foundation.
“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” Jordan said in his release. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration.”
Jordan first started working with the foundation in 1989, and has been a part of hundreds of wishes for kids around the world. The foundation shared that he is among the top requested celebrity wish-granters.
In 2008, the foundation honored him as the Make-A-Wish Chief Wish Ambassador after he helped make “life-changing impacts” for “wish kids and their families.”
His support for the foundation and the children it blesses has continued, as he shared that there is no better gift he could want for his birthday.
“I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” Jordan said.
