The Minneapolis City Council has reached a multi-million settlement in a case involving former police officer Derek Chauvin, who is in prison for killing George Floyd in 2020.

During a closed-door session, council members agreed to settle with John Pope and Zoya Code for a combined total of $8.8 million.

Pope and Code both alleged in their lawsuit that Chauvin kneeled on their necks during separate instances in 2017, three years before Floyd’s death.

The two sued Chauvin, seven other officers, and the City of Minneapolis over excessive force, racial discrimination, and misconduct.

Pope and Code could now release the body camera footage from their encounters with Chauvin as early as later today.
