During a Zoom meeting Wednesday, a participant heard a loud noise and saw their coworker, 21-year-old Shamaya Lynn, fall backwards.

Lynn’s coworker called 911, and when police arrived at her apartment on Spanish Trace Drive in Altamonte Springs, Fla., they discovered she was dead. Lynn’s toddler had shot her in the head with a loaded handgun, according to Click Orlando.

Though first responders did their best to treat Lynn’s fatal gunshot wound, it was too late to save her, said a police statement.

Altamonte Springs police said the toddler found the handgun in the apartment. Authorities confirmed that the firearm belonged to the child’s father. They also confirmed that Lynn was the mother of the child as well as another toddler.

“The shooting investigation is ongoing,” said Click Orlando.
“Police are working with the state attorney’s office to determine if the owner of the firearm will face any possible charges.”

“To anyone and everyone tuning into this story if you own a firearm please keep it locked and secured,” officer Roberto Ruiz Jr. said in a TV clip, according to the New York Post. “Incidents like this can be avoided.”
